Sunday Night at the Mod Club Sleigh Bells Slayed (Heh, I've been dying to post that all night)

Joking aside, Brooklyn based duo, Sleigh Bells killed it last night at the Mod Club, they thrashed the fucking walls down.

I remember talking to someone leading up to the concert and tried by best to describe their unique sound by calling them 'Thrash-Pop-Rock' Thaddeus, my slam dance ready compadre likened them to having a sound encapsulating 'hip hop beats, shredding guitar licks and sweet sweet vocals'. As you can tell, their are quite the hodge podge.

Leading up to the show I had been listening to their 2017 release Kid Kruschev and I wasn't grabbed, I was figuring this was going to be a band I went to see just for 'the old ones'. I was terribly wrong, the problem with Kid Kruschev as an album is that they are unable to capture their live sound and energy. Their a band built for the stage. I felt much the same way when seeing the Flaming Lips perform in a post 'Embryonic' world. That album, just as much as Kid Kruschev, is an attempt to capture what these fine musicians do best, and thats perform.

Some of my top tracks from the eve were from Kid Kruschev; Blue Trash Matress Fire and Rainmaker being clear highlights. I've actually been spinning the all morning since, trying to relive how solid the tunes felt.

If you get a chance to see these wonderful dudes live this year, at any point, festival or indoor venue, do yourself a favour, get your thrashin' shoes on and give it a whirl. You'll sweat buckets but you'll be thrilled.
